10.21.08 – The "Distortion" music video!
10.16.08 – Here are a few still shots from the forthcoming cosmic dickslap of a music video, "Distortion." Click on a picture for a bigger view:
10.15.08 – Yo yo suckaz! Long time no post. I just wanted to post a little update entry, since it's been a while. It looks like I should be finishing up the "Distortion" video in the next two or three weeks. I'm hoping to have it done in time for Halloween, since it's a pretty horrific video. I'm really excited about it. It's going to blow faces off of people's skulls.
In the meantime, here's a song I wrote and recorded this weekend. It's called "Boggled Whiskey Dream":
08.06.08 – The "Distortion" video is coming along nicely. Just about finished shooting all of the animated sequences, which means it's almost time to dive full force into editing mode. Expect to see it finished some time around late September.
In other news, I scored this cool kid's organ from 1959. It's an Audion Organ Key Selector, and it's fun as hell to play with.
07.10.08 – Here is a video I editted together of the Independence Day show at The Real UHF. Hosted by none other than the legendary Dr. Demento. Mel, Billy, and I got together 3 songs, and drove down to LA from Berkeley for the weekend. The rest of the band is playing with us for the first time on stage. The result was silly, sloppy, chaotic, and a whole lotta fun! Enjoy.
July 4, 2008 - BUBBLE TROUBLE!!!
07.08.08 – The show was great! Thanks to everyone who came out and participated - especially naked guy in a monkey mask. And ESPECIALLY Zack Wolk for throwing a fuggin' awesome show! I'm editing together a video of our set, which I'll be posting probably today or tomorrow-ish. In the meantime, here's a picture of me and Dr. Demento (!!!):
07.01.08 – Exciting news: Zack called me up this morning and told me that the 4th of July Neil Hamburger show is going to be hosted by none other than the infamous Dr. Demento!
We also have added a drummer to our band for the evening (we're tentatively named Bubble Trouble), also courtesy of the Wolkster. His name is BARS. Thanks Zack!
In other news, I've continued working on the animation for the Distortion video. Here are some shots from tonight:

Sends a chill down the ol' spinebone, don't it?
06.26.08 – On the evening of July 4th, I am playing a show with my friends Eliot, Billy, and Melanie at Zack Wolk's studio in Hollywood, The Real UHF. We will be one of several bands opening up for America's Funny Man, Neil Hamburger, who will be performing his new country album in its entirety with his band. It's gonna be a heluva party.
Other bands inlclude ANAMANAguchi, Hawnay Troof, and Count Smokula. Seats are limited, so if you would like to reserve a spot, E-mail the Wolk Man himself at Zack@ZackWolk.com as soon as possible!
Click the picture below for a full-sized view:
06.23.08 – Last month, Ja$on Bane, and Natalie, and I drove down to L.A. to record the live action portion of the "Distortion" music video in Zack Wolk's TV studio for The Real UHF. A lot of my favorite people showed up to participate, and it was like a 13-hour-long party of flavor in the studio's mouth. Here are some digital photographs of said event:

06.22.08 –
A broken primate gets his shit together. This is an animation I did for the upcoming Distortion music video.
02.23.08 –
02.10.08 – My brother Greg spent the weekend in Berkeley, and we recorded a remake he wrote of my song "Crackle in the Spackle." This is the first mixdown; it's still a work in progress. I'm gonna add drums and bass to it, but it sounds pretty sweet acoustic too. Not bad for a day's work, that's fer damn shure! Click play to cheggit!
02.09.08 – I posted a rendition of Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene," that I recorded with my friends Sara and Chandra. Check it out in the Listen section or by clickin PLAY below.
02.09.08 –
02.07.08 – You may notice this site is looking a little different. A major update is underway. Keep checking back for some big updates and new content.
02.02.08 –
01.30.08 – Hey y'all- I posted a couple of new mp3's to the Listen Section- "Wild Ride" and "Trampolines!" Both are more sketches/works in projects than actual songs. I'm actually working on a cooler expanded version of "Wild Ride" right now, which I'll post up here later. I'm probably going to make an animated video for "Trampolines!" some time in the near future. I want to add some trumpets and verses to the song. Anyway, check em out- they're both funky li'l tracks.
I currently piecing together my "new" album WHOAtmeal, which is going to be a collection of songs I've done spanning over several years. I'm finalizing the tracklist and mastering the tracks. I think it's going to end up being a double album. I hope to have a finished project within the the next couple of months. In addition to that, I'm working on an album of newer material. Yes, these are exciting times indeed, my friends.
I updated the Store section. My old demo Ocean Blvd. is out of print now, but you can still purchase a different demo of my music with newer tracks for only $6.00. This will be only available until WHOAtmeal is finished.
In other news, I'm still working on giving chonk.org a facelift, and also on my new band/multi-media project, The Bendable Professionals. Web design is a time-consuming monster, so it's taking a little bit of time. It'll be worth it though, just you wait!
01.04.08 – Greetings fellow 2008-ians! I've got some cool news that I'll be announcing on here soon regarding some Chonk CD's on the horizon. :-O
I decided not to use this news page as a blog, like I suggested a couple of entries ago. Instead, I'm going to be firing up a proper, separate, blog page (which will be in journal section, and will replace the current LiveJournal link that is there now). I'll be posting lots of randoms thoughts, pictures and drawings on there, while this News page will just have info on my music/media projects.
New musics in the works, expect samples, as well as 3 brand new Chonk CD releasing.... coming soon!
11.10.07 – I done got myself a job at Rasputin Music in Berkeley! As fun as the rock and roll lifestyle may be (which, for me, involves waking up around 10:30 in the morning, playing guitar, wandering around town hitting burrito joints and coffee houses, recording music, browsing the internet, and, of course, snorting the occasional line off of a groupie's stomache), it doesn't pay the the bills... YET. So, now I have a job at one of the biggest/awesomestest record stores in the area... no complaints there.
In the past couple of weeks, I've been recording/producing songs for my friends. It's been a cool experience/good practice trying to record other people's creations, and attempting to make their visions come to life. I'll post some of that stuff on this site when we have some finished products. By the way, if you make awesome music, live in the bay area, and are interested in having me record you, drop me a line.
I'm working on reformatting this website, and making a lot more awesome, so expect some major updates soon. I'm gonna be reworking the content/format of the store, discography, and photo sections first, since those are all in pretty desperate need of some updatin'.
Also, this News section is going to be updated more frequently. I'm going to be using it as more of a personal/musical blog. You may have noticed the "subscribe to chonk news" and "+ Google" icons at the top of the page. You can use those to subscribe to my RSS Feed. If you don't know what RSS is, I recommend checking it out; it's pretty handy. Basically, you can subscribe to your favorite websites, and have all their updates delivered to you in your RSS Reader (such as Google Reader), saving you the trouble of checking all the sites manually.
That's all for now. I'm really excited for what's to come in the near future both musically and otherwise.
11.04.07 – I've set up an RSS Feed for chonk.org news. Click on the RSS icon to subscribe!
10.17.07 – What's shakin' y'all? I posted some new music in the Listen Section, including a new track called "Operation Incredible," which I recorded with Zack Wolk, and Dan Flores (Fires of Adonis). I also posted a Skip James cover of a song called "Crow Jane" that I recorded with DJ Cough, and a dirty 4-track version of a song I wrote called "Carousel." I also replaced the song "Running in Circles" with a newer, remastered mix.
I recently moved to a new place in Berkeley, and it's awesome. I've set up a recording studio in the garage.
This website is due for a facelift. Expect some major updates SOON!
8.02.07 – So, I've been back in California for a couple of weeks, and have been travelling around a bunch. I'm in San Diego right now, hanging out at a coffee shop in La Jolla. I've played a couple of open mics since I've been back, one at Welcome Cafe, and another at Coffee Cartel on Tuesday. I'll probably be playing Coffee Cartel's Tuesday open mic pretty regularly for the next couple of months.
As usual, I've been working on music. Now that I'm back home, I'm getting back into recording for my album. Keep checking back for new shitz, or come see me live to hear what I've been working on! I've got a new 33-track CD I've been giving out at shows that will knock your knickers off.
That's all the news I've got for now.
7.17.07 – We've been on the road/in New Orleans for about a month now. We decided to head back home soon, instead of spending the entire summer here. The primary reason being that we're broke and jobless! It's been a helluva time, though. I started up a flickr account to document the trip with photos. You can check that out HERE.
I'll be back in Los Angeles next week, then moving to the North Bay Area in October.
6.16.07 – Howdy! I just finished up the third and final version of the song "Distortion." It's a hot one, check it out in the listen section. My friend Natalie does the R&B vocals toward the end.
I'm moving to New Orleans in three days for the summer. My travel mate and I are subletting a house by the French Quarter. While I'm there, I'm gonna be writing my album, recording demos, and playing shows wherever I can (probably lots of street performing). It's gonna be a heluva trip. I'll probably document it with photos and stories in my journal.
I'm going to try to get at least a couple more tracks posted here before I leave, so check back in the next couple of days. WORD!
5.04.07 – I posted two new tracks in the Listen section. One is a brand new track I recorded with Zack Wolk, called "Humanthink," and the other is a slightly older remake of my song "Distortion." Check em out!
Sorry for the lack of updating. I haven't had a whole lot of specific news to report. I have a new album in the works that I'm recording with the home studio I've been building over the past year. Aside from that, I'm moving to San Francisco in the near future, and plan on playing lots of live shows, and eventually getting a live band together.
1.12.07 –
Chonk.org is BACK for another year of sonic chaos and sexual mischeif! The site was was down for a little while because I had to switch to a different server, but the transition is now complete, and the children can smile once again.
Speaking of smiling children, I have been writing and beginning the recording stages of a new album. The album will be under the name The Bendable Professionals, a band I started with my good friend Harry Hall (bass). A new honorary Bendable Professional has recently been added to the line up, a musical madman by the name of David Wayne. He will be laying down some drums for the album. We're currently looking for more band members to help with the recording process, so if you want to get involved drop me an e-mail!
I have finished mastering my new album "WHOAtmeal!" It's a collection of tracks I've done over the past 4 years, mixed into a somewhat coherent album with fun segways and interludes interspliced. I'm pretty stoked on it. It will be available to buy in the store within the next month or so.
Expect some improvements and new additions to this website very soon, as well as new music clips and demos.
10.31.06 – Happy Halloween guys and ghouls! And boy, do I have some scary news for you. Me and Harry, The Bendable Professionals, have officially started recording what will hopefully end up being our debuit album. We've got lots of ideas that we've been developing for the past couple of months, and tonight we started recording our first song, "Yellow Snowcone." Exciting shit!
In related news, The Bendable Professionals are on MySpace! Befriend us, and make use feel good about ourselves!
Keep checking back for new show dates and tunes. And enjoy Jesus's least favorite holiday.
10.28.06 – The Bendable Professionals (Chonk and Harry Hall) will be playing an hour-long set at University of San Diego (not to be confused with UC San Diego). The show will take place some time between 4:00 and 6:00 PM on November 16 at a Farmer's Market taking place that day. We're stoked on this show. Hope y'all can make it out!
We'll probably be playing a few local gigs in the meantime, so keep checking back. We need a drummer, so if you're interested, hit me up at chonk@chonk.org.
9.21.06 – I just posted two new electronic tracks in the listen section: "Komarov's Magic Rocket" and "Dog Beach." Cheggem out!
9.08.06 – Chonk Bauer and Harry Hall are ....
THE BENDABLE PROFESSIONALS

Coming soon to a Los Angeles area venue near YOU!
8.31.06 – I'm gonna be playing a full set at Sacred Grounds in San Pedro tomorrow night (Friday, September 1). The show starts at 8:30 PM, and ends when we get tired, or someone gets seriously injurred. Harry Hall will be rocking the bass guitar and snorting coke lines off a groupie's tit. Definitely NOT to be missed!
8.22.06 – Not that it does anyone a whole helluva a lot of good to tell you now, but I just played another open mic at Coffee Cartel in Redondo. It was good fun. I'm living in the South Bay again for the time being... for the full story on THAT, click here!
8.01.06 – I'm playing an open mic at Coffee Cartel in Redondo Beach tonight. Show starts at 8:00!
7.15.06 – Just so y'all know I'm not dead, here's a quick li'l update. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz last month, and moved to a new place by the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz. In the past couple of weeks, I've converted my old computer into a home studio, and now I'm writing and recording a grip of new shit.
So I'm not dead, and expect some new recordings up here real soon. I'll likely be playing some open mics in the near future, so keep checking back!
5.07.06 – Hey now! I'm gonna be playing a show here in Santa Cruz this Friday, May 12 from 6-10 PM! The show will take place in the courtyard of the La Bahia appartment complex (the old mission across from and in-between the Boardwalk and the Pier). The address is 215 Beach Street. The show is a benefit for people incarcerated in our local jails. Sounds like a good cause to me. Let's rok!
A donation between $4 and $8 will get you access to food and drinks (vegan options available!) Some other bands on the bill include Drunken Boat, betabel, Laura Julio, Tyler, and Hardy Har. Tons of fun will be had. Don't miss it!
I'm gonna try to get some sort of band together for the show. So if you play anything, and live in the area, hit me up! chonk@chonk.org. Percussion would be particularly helpful (bongos, trashcans, turtle shells, washboards, dead children, whatever you've got!). I've got a couple of possible bass players in mind, but nothing's for sure just yet. I could also use an extra guitarist who's good at improvising.
4.07.06 – I’m back in
Speaking of CD’s, Zack and I put together a 22-track album of music and poetry by the both of us. There’s a new/ridiculous track on there that we recorded that day called “Sanity.” We have some extra copies, so if you want one, drop me an e-mail.
2.10.06 - What up kittie katz! Sorry for the lack of news in the past couple of months. Just haven't had a whole lot of specific news to report... and I still don't, but here's a little update anyhow.
I've got several songs in the works-- some in the writing stages, some written that need to be recorded. I'm still working on setting up my computer-based "studio." It should be good to go in the next week or two, then you'll be hearing some new Chonk shit!
Been putting up lots of hidden goodies on chonk.org... so click around, baby! Expect some cool additions to this site soon.
I'm going to play some open mics in Santa Cruz real soon. So check back for that.
I signed up for www.last.fm the other day. Pretty rad website. It logs all your iTunes activity and posts it to your profile. So if you ever wanna see what I'm listening to these days, my user name is MrChonk.
12.07.05 - Happy December folks! Just a quick update, since I haven't posted anything here for a bit. I'm headed down to L.A. for the year's end tomorrow. That means I'll probably play an open mic or two down there. Stay tuned for that.
May be starting up a band with some friends real soon. More on that next month.
Check out my song "Drifting over the Horizon" on MySpace.
That's all for now! Have a kick ass celebration of our lord and savior, Jesus "fuckin" Christ.
10.24.05 - Me, my room mate VG, and our friend
Evan played a couple of songs together last Wednesday as a feature at my friends
Natalie and Sara's Santa Cruz city slam. You can check out pictures from the
show here.
09.27.05
- Moved back to Santa Cruz last week, and
finished a song I've been working on when I got here. It's a cover of Chris
Ballew's old 4-track hoedown ditty "Dead End Lies."
It's a fun track, and you can download an mp3 of it by clicking
here or stream it in the listen
section.
09.07.05 - I played at Coffee Cartel's open mic last night. Some pictures from the show are up in the photo section. I played a song called "Distortion!," which you can now download the living SHIT out of.
08.18.05 - New road trip pictures in the photo section!
08.12.05 - I posted some more brand new pics in the photo section, including photos from the Sexual Factory show at Lava Lounge on the 5th, and my Coffee Cartel performance on the 26th.
07.25.05 - I just posted pictures from the Sexual Factory show in Bakersfield last Friday. Check them out in the photo section (which is now up, by the way!)
Oh, and come check out my performance at the Coffee Cartel tomorrow night. It's gonna be fun.
07.22.05 - I'll be playing at Coffee Cartel this coming Tuesday the 26th. Show starts at 8:00.
Pumped 'n' ready for the first Sexual Factory tonight in Bakersfield!
07.18.05 - Sexual Factory has booked its first Los Angeles gig! The show will be at Lava Lounge on August 5. Some real exciting shit... Hope you can make it out!
Unfortunately, I have to cancel my appearance at Coffee Cartel's open mic tomorrow night. I'm gonna be visiting San Diego, and probably won't make it back up in time. Next week, pretty much for sure though.
07.15.05
- I'm going to be playing an open mic at Coffee Cartel in
Redondo Beach this coming Tuesday (July 19). I played there a couple of nights
ago, and it was just as fun as mustard.
ALSO! The Sexual Factory show in Bakersfield has had a change of venue. The show will be taking place at Jerry's Pizza (1817 Chester Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301) on Friday, July 22. I'm so fucking hyped for this show.... Come check it out! I think it's gonna be crazy.
I put up the bio section.
06.25.05 - Just put up the discs section, including a pretty-much-complete list of all the songs I've released/played live, and lyrics to a lot of 'em. Shit's comin' together. Enjoy!
06.24.05 - As promised, I've been working on the missing sections of this website. I just put up the video section and the links section, and boy are they HOPPIN'! Check em out. More SOON.
In other newsies, Sexual Factory has a show scheduled for July 22! The show is at Gigantic Vintage in Bakersfield, Californey! Check www.myspace.com/sexualfactory for the details on that show, as well as other shows that we will be posting soon!
06.14.05 - Hey everyone, I'm going to be joining the live Sexual Factory show. Sexual Factory is a band made up of my former Pardon Our Dust bandmate, Derek Allan, and his long time (and my short time) friend Wyatt Kozinski.
The show is going to be a crazy visual orgasm of sexual proportions. We're all pumped about it, and hope to have our first show somewhere in the L.A. area some time in the next couple of weeks. Keep checking back for updates on that!
06.04.05 - Man, I've been slacking like all fuck on updating this site. Sorry about that... life's been busy. BUT, I'm moving back to Torrance for the summer in a week, which means I'll have more time to spend working on this site. I want to finally get all the missing sections of this website up and running this month. So keep checking back!!
I've been writing music, drawing pictures, writing lyrics, and recording quite a bit. I'm working on a cover of Chris Ballew's song "Dead End Lies," which was originally for a Chris Ballew tribute album, but I missed the deadline. So, when it's done, I'll post it up here.
I'm also working on a track from Brandon Habermeyer's new short movie. Brandon's the guy who wrote/directed the short video "Banana Stereo" (click the link to watch it) that I recorded the song "Banana" for. He's working on a masterpiece right now, and I'm stoked to be a part of it. More on that later.
When I get back to Torrance, I WILL be playing open mics (an possibly other gigs) on a fairly regular basis. So check back here if you want to catch me live some night.
I've been talking a lot to my brother, Greg, about working together on some music. We'll see what comes out of it! Also, I'm probably going to be involved with some other live performance shit with that I can't be specific about right now. Soon though.
Some other exciting news: I've been talking to Zack Wolk about making some new episodes of our public access TV show, Cheap Blue Horn, this summer. We'll also likely work on some Chonk music videos, among other things. Can't fucking wait!
That's all for now. Expect more regular updates on here from now on.
02.03.05 - Chonk.org is back! Sorry about the down time. Had some technical problems.
I'm working on a few new tracks, including a song called "Soggy Froggy," that will feature Anton Patzner (of Judgement Day) on violin, as well as a rockin' studio version of "Crackle in the Spackle." I may post clips when I'm done.
Keep checking back here. I'll be adding to this site a lot now that it's back on the net. The sections that are down should be up in the next week or so, along with some other cool shit. That's all for now!
01.25.05 - I decided to make my demo album, "Ocean Blvd." available again! I reworked the tracklist and called it the "FINAL EDITION" of the "Ocean Blvd." (dramatic, huh?)
Copies of it are now available at Streetlight Records in Santa Cruz, and in the store section of this site. It will probably be available througout the rest of this year, until I finish my studio album. This will probably be your last chance to get these songs on any sort of official CD, so get a copy while you still can!
Also, my new song, "Drifting over the Horizon," is going to be featured at the end of a slam poetry CD that my friends Sara and Natalie are compiling. They used The Carcass Closet (my recording studio) to record the album. They'll be selling copies tonight through Friday at the Kinetic Poetics event at UC Santa Cruz.
01.19.05 - In celebration of the new year and a new era of Chonk music, I'm rebuilding this website completely! There is still a lot of stuff I need to put up. All the major parts of this site should be up within the next couple of days. I'll be adding a lot of animations and little surprises to the website as time goes on as well, so keep checking back!
01.15.05 - I was in a weird mood tonight, so I added a bunch of stories behind the songs to the listen section. Just click on "Lyrics/Story" next to the song you wanna read about.
Time to go bed. Going to Tahoe tomorrow.
01.10.05 - I just finished mixing a new song called "Drifting over the Horizon," and I'm pretty damn happy with it.
Click here to hear a 42-second mp3 clip.
01.09.05 - Holy smokes! It's 2005! I'm working on some new material, using my new hi-tech recording machine. I'll post clips of stuff that I'm working on as I go, but I won't be posting full songs, because I plan to release them officially on my next album!
Also, I will be rebuilding this site real soon. Gotta keep it fresh!
